Catch Up on the Hot Weather

Wow, I'm so hot. The sweat is dripping down my back! It's because I'm at the top of the house and as heat rises it's like a sauna in here!

So yes, it's been a hot few days. Yesterday was better, the air smelt sweet and there was a heat haze over Bluewater. I think I went a bit shopping mad yesterday and as I had sold a painting I didn't feel guilty. I went there to buy Birthday presents, shoes and skirts. I came away with Birthday presents, tops, dvds and perfume. No shoes caught my fancy nor skirts, though I do know quite a nice little shop in Canterbury that sells skirts so I'll wait for that! When we came home it was even warm enough to sit in the garden, so we had a bottle of wine and sat out there until 10:30pm. It was meant to thunder today, but none came and it's meant to be wet tomorrow.

Today was one of those days that nothing goes right. I spent a good part of it trying to get my disgo (portable usb drive) to work on my old Sony laptop so I could download the phots from that onto my mac. Would it work? No, of course not. I was getting angry, the more angry I got the more hot. My Sony is so ancient now and after having 18 months with my Mac, it took me a while to figure out how to use Windows again. Mac is so, so SO much easier and if anything goes wrong with the programmes you just 'force quit'. The Sony kept sticking and after hundreds of 'ctrl' 'alt' 'delete' later, it just wasn't waking up and to top it all off the disgo was refusing to work. So I phoned up the support line (really good, it's nice to talk to a human and not a recorded message) and she sent me an email with the relevant address to download some new 'free' drivers for my Sony. So I connected the Sony to the web (dial up) and it didn't work. The lead was faulty. So I rumaged for another. That one worked but it didn't answer. It turned out that the dial up number was old, there's a bloody new one now!!!! So I gave up. Later on from coming back from shopping, I thought I'll just try the disgo again and you know what? The bloody thing worked! AFTER ALL OF THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So then I began the downloading process but unfortunately some of the files on the Sony will not be moved! It refuses, point blank! Not a great day somehow.

An update on Gola. She has grown!!!!! And she's very happy in her cage. A few nights ago I could hear her scampering about. My bedroom is on the same floor as the sitting room (which is good because it's not as hot as upstairs!) and Gola is on the small chest against the wall. I could hear a strange noise and then I realised she had found 'the wheel', so I crept out and there she was going round and round and round and round. I was so proud of her and then I felt so sorry for her. If she was your common pet mouse which you had bought in a pet shop, it wouldn't worry me, but as she already has had a taste of freedom in her short life, I felt bad. But we could never release her now. She is still scared of us, but she's getting better. I called her name and she looked up at me! We went to the shop 'Pets at Home' earlier to buy her more bedding and food, the shop is like a large warehouse dedicated to pets. They sale birds, rabbits, rats, hamster, even chinchillas. As we were paying, the guy at the till noticed the book we were buying on 'How to Care For Your Mouse' and remembered us, 'Are you the people who found the mouse?' he inquired. I thought that was pretty good! Plus he was rather good looking! Always a good thing!

Charles Clarke has been sacked. John Prescot is still deputy PM but he has lost his department. Jack Straw is no longer Foreign Secretary, Margaret Becket is and a few labour back benches are drafting a letter to Tony Blair asking him to set a date for when he will step down - which will be never as I'm sure he'll last to the end. The Tories have done well in the local elections, 40% and Labour 26%, Lib Dems 27% but only a 36% turnout. Dark clouds are forming over No. 10 Downing Street.

Now I have a sudden craving for bread, butter and strawberry jam. It has to be brown bread and bread, not toast. I find white bread with jam is quite sickly. Anyone agree?

Em x
